Solar Grade Poly Silicon
Designed specifically to meet the needs of semiconductor wafer production and the solar industry, Highland Materials produces ultrapure polysilicon that is used to manufacture silicon ingots and wafers used for semiconductors and solar cells.
The Highland Materials process and its ability to upcycle kerf, a waste from the silicon wafer manufacturing process provides a much more efficient method to producing electronic-grade silicon that complements material produced through the Siemens technology. This results in significant cost reductions in silicon ingot/wafer manufacturing while reducing energy and emissions, improving safety, and eliminating major industrial waste stream.

- Achieves in-line PV cell conversion efficiencies and module performance on par with cells/modules produced using primarily EG silicon
- Provides ingot, cell and module manufacturers with an alternative source for cost effective silicon which may improve margins
- Can be used as a drop-in replacement for EG silicon, or as part of a blend
Our solar silicon already powers more than 20 million PV cells worldwide, and modules created with our solar silicon have earned certifications from UL, IEC and TÜV Rheinland.
Highland material has also demonstrated exceptional performance at a number of module testing sites, including the National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s headquarters and a facility in Sunnyvale, California.
Anode Material
Silicon anode batteries are an extension of widely used lithium ion (Li-on) batteries. Next generation Li-ion batteries will make use of silicon anodes that utilize silicon nanotubes, or a comparable process which will result in a significantly higher energy storage capacity and longer battery life. Highland Materials silicon has already been successfully sampled and tested to silicon anode battery manufactures.
