Matthias Heuer

Matthias Heuer (PhD, 52 years) is a materials scientist with 20 years of silicon experience who is managing Highland’s R&D work to further develop the company’s solar silicon refining technology with focus on sustainability and circular economy. After 12 years academic career Mr. Heuer joined Silicor as a senior engineer in 2007 and served as a Director, Corporate R&D Solar Silicon since 2012 and as a Managing Director for the Berlin R&D facility since 2013. Between 2017 and joining Highland Materials he worked as a consultant and co-founder at SiQAL in Germany developing novel refining technologies to obtain high-value materials from waste streams. Dr. Heuer holds a Ph.D. and a venia legendi from the University of Leipzig, Germany. As an Assistant Professor at this University and a Research Fellow at LBNL/UC Berkeley, he has contributed to numerous scientific publications.
